i love showers

especially when they’re for me!!! i’ve had my outfit for the shower picked out for a week – then last night, while talking to my sister, i realized that it was going to be almost 80 degrees – um, hello – it’s January!! thank you to the ever unpredictable Texas weather – i had planned on wearing black tights with my patent leather ankle boots – well that was a no go – i have this awesome paor of tall purple leather boots that would be perfect – if only i could get my fat swollen feet into them – now, i’ve had these boots for at least 2 years and for some reason i’ve never worn them – i don’t know why, because they are fabulous! and after realizing that none of my black boots would work (i have 3 pairs of tall black boots and clearly need another pair!), i became bound and determined to get those purple boots on – i remembered reading somewhere that rubbing alcohol helps leather stretch, so i pulled out the cotton balls and the rubbing alcohol and resorted to using a wire hanger to get the zipper up – and perseverance paid off – until after we picked up my sister from the airport – my feet were killing me – so much so that we headed to DSW in search if new shoes – and of course there were no boots to be found for me but leave it to Evilina to find a pair of shoes for her – yeah, we hate her – not only does she always find shoes, she has this tiny little foot that looks great in everything – did i say HATE – yeah, i meant it! anyway, since one of my life mottos is “beauty knows no pain”, i put my purple boot sback on and headed to the shower – and guess what – after the brief break of trying on other shoes, my feet were feeling better – see, God does look out for fools and children!

so, not only is Kellie Rasberry the funniest woman i know, she’s also one of the sweetest and most generous – she has totally hooked me up by giving me all the big stuff that Emma Kelly has outgrown – but she also threw me an awesome shower today – we had afternoon tea at the Adolphus hotel in Dallas – it was so cool – i had never been to a formal tea and it was so fancy and girly – and of course i love stuff like that – it was a very small shower – my mom and sister (who flew in for the day just for the shower) and my closest girlfriends – and it was perfect – small and intimate and just the girls!!

the tea was so cool – you start out by selecting teas for the whole group – then they bring out a different tea with each course (we had Vanilla Bear, Black Raspberry and Pear Caramel) – the first course was a plateful of finger sandwiches – i never knew that i liked egg salad, but apparently i do – it was so good! then the second course was a scone with sweet butter and jam – the third course was dessert and they bring out a plate of desserts for each person – then you finish up with handmade truffles – ya’ll know how i love me some chocolate! who would’ve guessed that you’d be full after high tea – but i was – and i loved every minute of it – if Spike is a girl (or whenever i have one), i’ll do girly things like tea with her all the time – Kellie and Amy (Kellie’s BFF) are going to start a tradition by bringing their girls every year at Christmas – isn’t that cool?

mom and Angie both got me a car seat (crazy Babies R Us registry) so i’m going to take mom’s back and get thePack n Play – my sister got me the RED onesies from The Gap – Amy gave me the cutest diaper bag (i’ll post a picture later) and i was psyched about that because Kelley decided he wasn’t buying me the one i really wanted (he’s no fun!) – and it’s purple and green! i got all of my bedding and bassinet sheets, the vibrating papasan chair (that everyone says is a lifesaver) and more onesies and blankets and bigs – lucky Spike – it was starting to look like he’d be naked when coming home from the hospital!

here are a few pics from the shower – the enormous one in the wild print – yeah, that’s me!  you’ll have to click on the thumbnail to get the big picture – i haven’t figured out how to adjust the camera resolution yet

  1. Wow! You look really really swollen. Are you sure you aren’t toxemic or have pre-eclaspia? You just dont look good.

  2. Sarah – Ouch! That was a mean thing to post.

Anyway…”God does look out for fools and children”…that made me laugh! I don’t think I’ve ever heard that one :)
