Eggplant, raspberry tea and a pedi …
January 30, 2008 at 5:03 pm | In Uncategorized | 27 Commentsand still no Spike – i wasn’t sure what to eat with Eggplant Parmesan, so we ordered pizza – it was like an Italian festival at my house last night – and 2 hours after dinner, i was in the same predicament as i was the night before – painful Braxton Hicks, but nothing i could time – and when i woke up this morning, they were gone – oh yeah, and more punching from Spike, which made the BHs that much more enjoyable – i am in SO much trouble! girl or boy, Spike is going to be a rough and tumble kid from day one! so i’ll continue with the tea today and i’ll be adding pineapple to the mix – i’ve also heard that i should walk on curbs and jump off of them – i have no idea why that would work but it sounds easy enough – the curb at my house is only 3 or 4 inches – surely i can manage that – it’s the walking thing that’s killing me now! i should also call my grandma and ask her about those old wives tales – she’s from Louisiana, so she has to have some old Creole tale to suggest – in the meantime, there’s an Italian restaurant here in town that claims their meatball pizza will send you into labor – so guess where i’m headed for lunch!
tomorrow is my actual due date and i am headed to the doctor as soon as the show is over – there has got to be some news, right? the baby’s dropped – your cervix is opening – SOMETHING!!! at this point, i’d be happy if she lied to me – i can live with false hope!! whatever will get me through the next week – JC has been telling me to make sure that the baby doesn’t come on Super Bowl Sunday – wouldn’t that be irony if i went into labor right before the game started – surely that would mean Spike is a girl!
so last night was Night #2 of me sleeping on the chaise – i pointed out to Kelley that he looked mighty comfortable sleeping in the bed without me – he tried to play it off but then he busted out laughing – yeah, i knew he enjoyed it – the whole bed to himself – so last night when he went to bed, i made him take the dog with him – she is still having a hard time adjusting to the wood floors and she spends the entire evening clickety-clacking around trying to find a soft place to land – it’s driving me nuts!! so i made him take her into the bedroom with him – imagine my surprise (yet again) this morning when i saw the dog in bed with Kelley – he is such a softie! she totally has a bed in our room and has gotten pretty good about sleeping in it – but he put her in bed with him instead!! sucker!!! i thought i was the only one who gave into the dog on a regular basis!
ok, so apparently there is a new “trend” in child safety and you’re supposed to have your infant car seat inspected my a certified car seat inspection person – now this is one of those things that i read in a book or magazine andeveryone is doing it – and because we waited til the last minute to install the car seats, i’m now behind the curve in having it inspected – even after we tightened up the seat, it still feels a little loose – so i thought i’d just run to my local Fire Department and have someone look at it – yeah, that’s not the way this high tech world works – i guess there was some liability issue raised and now saving people from burning buildings is not enough to make you a safety expert – the city (or fire department or police department or whoever) now has to have certified car seat experts that do this one thing – and they are so freaking overwhelmed by the baby boom, you have to make an appointment – seriously? you can’t just assign these people to a location and have people drop by between the hours of X and Z – geez – of course i want Spike o be as safe as possible but isn’t this going a little overboard? i thought i would take the easy way out and make Kelley take care of it – but as it turns out, the car seat guy was busy yesterday and was supposed to call us back to set an appointment ***crickets*** i’ll let you know how that works out

I think it’d be funny (you probably wouldn’t
) if Spike came on his/her actual due date…you spent so long wishing he/she’d stay in until then, it’s be amazing if that actually happened! Good luck w/the lunch place today–hope it works!

STAY OFF the curbs. I know of more pregnant women who have broken bones, by tripping over curbs. STAY AWAY. Nothing worse than going into labor with a cast on your leg!

Dianthe – I’m not too far behind you with our babies.. I’m inducing on Feb 12th (because I’m diabetic, not out of convenience) so I’ve got less than 2 weeks to go.
We took the Baby Safety/CPR class last night and I’m not sure what city limits you are in, but they said the Carrollton FD will inspect the seats if you’re a citizen, as will Lewsville. Also the Plano PD will do it, and Plano Presby will do it (all for free). I’m not sure where you’re delivering, but I think most hospitals offer this on certain days of the week.. ? GOOD LUCK!

Congratulations by the way, your pregnancy pictures with Kelly were sooo cute.

Here is my advise to get the baby moving and out of there. This is going to sound weird but i promise it worked for me. I was dialated (s/p?) at a 2 and then went to a 7 in about 10mins. All i did was sat on the potty, spread eagle and yes it was a little uncomfortable but hey it got my baby out with only 5 hours of labor. For a first timer that is pretty good. I wish you the best and a very healthy baby.

It will all be over soon Dianthe. You have been such a trooper. Thank you for sharing your stories with us. Those of us who have been there (3 times!) are laughing at your misery knowing how short the time is even though it seems like forever. I can’t wait to find out whether it’s a Spike or a Sike! Good luck and GODSPEED SPIKE!!!!!!!

Hey Dianthe,
I know with my first baby, they had certain days the DMV where you could come by and get your carseat inspected. Also, if you don’t get someone before he/she comes..just have one of the nurses at the hospital take a look, usually they are trained to know if it is in Ok!
Good Luck!

My friend just had her baby this morning!! A little girl! She was orginally due on Feb. 5th but the past 2 weeks she had been making progress well then on Tuesday she came into the office and told me she had just tripped on the curb and fell down. First question I asked was did she hit her belly and she said no. An hour or so later she tells me that she is dizzy so I told her to call her doctor ASAP. Long story short she got checked and everything was fine but she did hit her belly and there was a big mark from it! Her doctor told her that she would induce her Wednesday night. She went into the hospital this morning at 1am and delivered at 7:27 am!! I am not suggesting that you go and fall down but the minute she relaxed and quit thinking everyday was going to be THE DAY it finally happened! Good luck!

Harris Methodist offers car seat safety checks on random Tuesdays – go to the Harris Methodist website and go to their “classes.” Car seat safety is an option. I just did it at HM Southwest a few weeks ago.

Actually, I know it isn’t the “legal” expert and they can’t be held accountable BUT our postpartum nurse double checked our car seat (hospital policy) and she knew more about it than we did. She gave us a few pointers. But with everyone so happy to sue over every little issue, I guess they have to be picky about who checks them. I remember when hospitals used to give away car seats and now b/c of liability issues they can’t even do that! CRAZY…..speaking of, ask your grandma, you are right, there has to be a creole tale in there for inducing labor.

Half a beer, thats what one of my friends tried and it worked for her. Another friend tried and it did not, but you never know.
Good luck and the curb thing I think thats just the jumping motion and you can get that by hopping on a big bouncy ball. Hope its soon, ohh please post a pic tonight I would love to see just how big Spike is (not how big you are, Spike is that taken up all that space).

Dianthe- Children’s Medical Center in Dallas has car seat safetly checks quite often in their parking garage. You can call there to find out when there next one is.

WALK WALK WALK…it’s what they will make you do at the hospital. WALK as much as you can. Climb stairs if you can.

OMG! I laughing at all the advice! Sitting spread eagle on the toilet, drinking beer….teeeheee…Anyhow, I am PG with my 3rd and he is due 2/15/08. Unfortunately, they come when they want……….ugh
Comment by Vanessa — January 31, 2008 #
Oh, if only first babies actually came on the due date — I hope yours does for your sake! Unfortunately, those first ones tend to stay in past the due date…my poor mother…I was born 3 weeks after the due date! Yikes:)
I think the pedi may still work for you — I’ve had friends go into labor after having them…just have Kelly rub your feet hard every night. It might work:)

I’m a nurse at PresbyPlano and I was walking thru the lobby this afternoon and I swear I saw you….if it WAS you, you’re looking FABULOUS! (If that wasn’t you….ummmm you have an identical twin in Plano who’s also ready-to-pop!)
Don’t worry about the carseat. Install it like the instructions say, and the nurse that discharges you to go home will check it out before you drive away! Best of luck!!

Hey Dianthe,
I had my sweet baby boy 17 weeks ago (he is the coolest!) anyway, at our hospital there were two ladies who voluntered between 9 and 5 to make sure the car seats were properly installed before you leave the hospital. May be something to look into?! Just a thought! Good luck and don’t rush him/her getting here so much… the faster they get here, the faster they grow up! I can’t believe mine was 5lbs only 17 weeks ago and now he’s 15lbs and getting so big!!
Comment by Cassie — January 31, 2008 #
Yeah, pretty much all of the CPSTs make you set up an appointment
Every now and then they will run a big thing and advertise where they’ll inspect basically anyone. I normally take mine in to one of those a year. Like you didn’t expect that from me?? I wish you would have mentioned this to me, I’d have let you know, you know that
!
I told Jeremy I don’t want to go anywhere on Sunday, but if you have Spike, I can leave the house for that!
Comment by Kelly — January 31, 2008 #
Oh, you might want to call BRU and ask them when they’ll have one. The presby. hospitals normally sponsor car seat safety events at BRU and will run inspections. If there is one soon, it might save you the hassle. If you want, in the mean time I’ll come check it for you.

All these crazy wives tales. Unfortunately, babies come when they want. I did it all! I walked until I couldn’t walk anymore…no baby! I was a week late and had to be indcued! It will happen. hopefully sooner than later! Good luck! Enjoy the baby….they grow up so fast!
