back from the OB
January 31, 2008 at 10:18 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | 19 Commentsand we’re not any closer than last week – well, that’s not completely true – it just feels that way!
50% effaced, somewhere between -3 and -2 station, cervix still completely closed – ugh!!!! i know that’s some progress from last week, but i am ready for Spike to come NOW!!!
i think part of the problem is that i’ve had such an easy pregnancy – i hardly had any morning sickness, i haven’t had any problems with gestational diabetes or extreme swelling or high blood pressure – no heartburn or hemorrhoids or constipation – i haven’t been extremely uncomfortable – my OB went as far as to call it a “perfect pregnancy” – i really lucked out that everything has gone according to plan – so i was completely unprepared for the aches and pains and the difficulty getting around that i’ve experienced these last couple of weeks – everyone said the last couple of weeks were the hardest – now i believe!
anyway, i’m hoping Spike comes sometime in the next week – i really don’t want to be induced unless it’s a medical necessity or Spike is in danger – so we’re going to hold off on that conversation for at least another week – but she said if we get close to 42 weeks and/or Spike starts getting close to 9 pounds, we’ll HAVE to at least start talking induction – but that’s at least another week away
in the meantime, i’m off to sit on the toilet … for labor purposes people!!! i share a lot but not THAT much!

You really should try the castor oil and walking! My daughter was due on the 6th, and on the 7th I was done with pregnant. . . .tried everything else – all the sex, different fruits, spices, etc. . .. . .last resort – grabbed the castor oil and poured a bit into some apple juice, held my nose and swallowed. 24 hours later. . . . Baby is born on the 8th! TRY IT!!!!

Dianthe, you are so freakin awesome to keep us all so informed. I look forward to reading your blogs and keeping up with your lovely pregnancy. You are awesome! You’ll be a great mom too, fun and parental all in one!

Castor Oil can cause the baby to pass meconium in utero and you don’t want that… You can star inserting several Evening Primrose Oil capsules into your vagina as far as you can get them in – before bed time. They help to soften the cervix and ripen it up for the big day. Keep drinking that tea, work on squats to open your pelvis.
As hard as it is, try to enjoy these last few days of just you and Kelley. They are precious and sometimes we don’t realize that until the baby has already arrived and it’s too late.
My daughter screams if anyone other than me or my husband holds her. We have not had any time alone in the entire 9 months she’s been alive. If I had only known then – I would have gone on a date with him every day the week before she was born!
Have I mentioned how much respect I have that you are going the natural route with your birth & parenting? It’s awesome when people in the public eye give exposure to natural parenting.
I’m going to miss you so much when you’re gone!

Dianthe, I went to the doctor first thing in the morning, and he told me I was not even close, not dialated or anything…that night I was in the hospital in labor, and had my baby the very next morning…it can happen quickly!!

Whew! I’m glad to see that I haven’t missed the big event. I’m so out of the loop, I figured Spike might’ve been born already and graduated to table food

Dianthe –
I was induced several times with what was suppose to be a Jan. baby…….needless to say, he’s a Feb 4th baby. I was miserable, but it’s all worth it. That was 8 years ago and three boys later, I still can sympathize. Hang in there sweetie……the drugs will all be worth it.

Dianthe-
Good Luck.
I had the same kind of pregnancy. I was a week away from my due date and the doctor told me the same thing. Then that evening my water broke. Here I thought I had at least another week and boom… it was over. I know you are uncomfortable, but just hang in there. Who knows your water may break tomorrow.

Hang in there girl!! Your fans down here in New Orleans are praying for you!! Take it easy and Mother Nature will do her job!!
You could come to Mardi Gras, maybe catching beads would inspire Spike to make an appearance!!
You are doing great girl, this is the easy part of having children, just remember that!

I was induced with my youngest, and it wasn’t bad at all…started very gently and slowly at 7:30 a.m., and she was born at noon….no big thang!
BTW, I’m the PresbyPlano nurse that thought I saw you in the lobby….guess that wasn’t you!

I was scheduled for induction because of my gestational diabetes for Monday morning and early in the morning on Sunday (the day before) my water broke and she came on her own. Maybe just talking about it A LOT will convince Spike he/she needs to make his/her debut! Good luck! We are praying for you to have a wonderful and easy labor and delivery! Best wishes!
BTW, both of my brothers were supposed to be sisters so maybe it’s a good thing you didn’t find out the sex! You might be in for a HUGE surprise! Take care!

Castor Oil DOES NOT cause a baby to pass merconium in utero. Think about it- castor oil works because it lubes up your insides when you drink it. It does not have the same effect on a fetus because the fetus is fed through the umbilical cord, and it’s not a direct pass through from mom’s stomach to baby’s- just a transfer of nutrients in the food. That’s why merconium is not like regular poop. If the actual food that mom eats (instead of nutrients from the food) were to travel through the umbilical cord, newborn poop would be like regular poop.
To make a long story short, the lubricating effects never make it to the fetus. If you take castor oil and have a merconium baby, you probably would have had a merconimum baby even without the castor oil.

My mom said she drank caster oil with me…and it didnt work. I was 4 days late. She did actually start laboring on my due date, but I didnt come until 4 days later by c-section.

“Spike” knows you love purple so she waited until
February so you can get that purple birthstone as your mother’s ring!!! Don’t stress if you need a
c-section, I have had two and it is a piece of cake!! Good luck and God Bless.

Maybe if you go on and schedule the delivery, Spike will go ahead and come just to be a brat. My friend had 2 kids, both she planned a delivery and the kids came earlier than the scheduled just to prove that you couldn’t tell them what to do. Try it!

Lisa,
First castor oil doesn’t work because it lubes your inside when you drink it – lubrication has nothing to do with why it’s ever recommended. It has to do with the link between bowel and uterine activity. The same bowel stimuation produced by diarrhea can cause a stimulation of the uterus to begin contracting. The problem is that it is often linked with hyperstimulation of the uterus, which can lead to fetal distress, which then leads to passing meconium in utero. So no it isn’t giving the baby diarrhea, but it is linked with meconium in utero.
Meconium isn’t even made up of the “nutrients” passed from the mother, those are delivered directly to the baby’s blood stream and never even enter their digestive system. Meconium is made up of cellular debris, mucus, bile, amniotic fluid & water.
It is clear from your post that you might not be very well versed in the topic of pregnancy and childbirth. You might want to do some research before you start correcting others that may very well know what they are talking about!
