1st day back to work - check!
April 23, 2008 at 4:39 am | In Uncategorized |the morning came quickly - i now have a new position with the show (which i’ll get to later) and i have to be at the studio at 4:30am instead of 5:30 - this requires me to get up around 3am - so of course Sydney would pick last night as the perfect time to not go to bed until 1:30am - did i mention that she went to bed the night before at 10:30pm? straight rotten - and she is all mine!!
so, in case you missed the first break of the show, i’m no longer on the phones - i have a new bigger and better gig - there’s a lot of behind the scenes stuff that i’ll be working on - but the big thing is that i’ll be writing a daily blog/synopsis of the show - so if you missed something on the show, you can refer to the synopsis to see what you missed - and then of course catch it on the K-Pod - i’ll also be moderating a chat room that will be just about the show - and as i write the blog, i’ll incorporate the listener comments from the chat room - it’s a big change for me and a chance to expand my writing skills, so i’m super excited about it!!
you can just call me Elsie - cause i am producing milk like a big old cow - now don’t get me wrong - i’m not complaining - i know that i’m really fortunate to be able to produce so much milk, especially when i know a lot of women aren’t - but so far today, i have pumped 18 ounces - that doesn’t even include the 3 or 4 times i’ve actually nursed Sydney since i got home - even when i’ve had a beer or eaten oatmeal, i’ve never pumped that much - how crazy is that?? oh, and just an fyi to those who are or will be breastfeeding - this is the greatest website ever - kellymom.com - you will find the answer to every breastfeeding question you’ve ever had!! oh, and someone asked me about breast pumps - i have the Medela PISA and i LOVE it - it has a battery pack so you can travel with it - and it has bottles and an ice pack so you can pump on the go - up to 20 ounces! and if you’re freezing milk, get the Lansinoh bags - you can freeze them flat and it takes up a lot less room in your freezer!
i have become a cloth diaper freak!! i love them - i’m really trying not to spend too much money on diapers because part of the appeal is that it’s cheaper than disposables - but there are so many cute ones out there - we started off with Kissaluvs Size 0s - while these are cute diapers - you have to put a cover on them - and they are great newborn diapers because they contain BF poo like no other - we haven’t had any blowouts!! but now that Sydney is getting bigger, she can fit into the really cute diapers - i started building my diaper stash before Sydney was born and since i was sure that Spike was going to be a boy - i didn’t buy any girly diapers - girls can get away with wearing boy colors, but it doesn’t work as well the opposite way - so now, i’m all about the girly diaper! so far, i have Bum Genius, Swaddlebees and Blueberrys - i ordered some new girly prints of the Blueberry’s over the weekend and they should be here on Thursday - i can’t wait to take pictures of Sydney in them!! so freaking cute!! and so easy - i just throw them in the washer and dryer and bam - new diapers - and did you know that the sun will bleach away poop stains?? it’s like magic!!
ok - as promised - new pictures of Sydney

she’s discovered her hands!!!

I am so excited for your new position, I am so glad that Kidd decided to make use of your great abiltiy to “tell it like it is” with humor (and sarcasm.. which I love)
Looking forward to the changes..
Good for you on the cloth diapers.. I am just scared to try that..

I am so glad you are back Dianthe! I too am a cloth diapering freak, total high maintenance like you, so I thought I would not like it. I am obsessed! Anyhoo, I have always used fuzzibunz and LOVE them but I was browsing on ebay and found a lady that makes homemade “fuzzibunz” called R.Bare Buns. They don’t leak and are precious and the best thing is I got 4 pairs for $20. Seriously, check them out.
Sydney is a dollface.

The more you pump - the more milk your body is going to produce. It thinks your baby is drinking all that milk and needs it! I did the same thing. It’s neat how your body adjusts. When I went back to work, I didn’t want to pump milk. I nursed my baby first thing in the morning and in the evenings when I got home. My body knew and didn’t produce milk during the day. It was cool.

I am so jealous. I had to stop nursing at four months because the milk factory apparantly went on strike. I even took some prescription to cause more milk. Oh well. Dianthe, enjoy every minute of it. It’s such a beautiful thing. There is no better bonding time with your little one and it will so soon be over and you’ll be taking the little stinker to school before you know it. Trust me! Enjoy your blessing.

She is such a cutie. I know what you mean about the cloth diapers. My husband says I have a CD addiction!!! I am always searching for cloth diapers online. I found a couple of stores here in the Dallas area, and now I visit those often, too. As for all the breastmilk, you can donate it. I know it sounds weird, but I think La Leche League has the info on it. It is pasteurized and used to feed malnourished and orphaned babieds in other countries. I always pumped, and stores. Then I would nurse and very rarely give my baby the frozen milk. A friend told me about the donations so I looked into it and I felt better knowing it was going to good use instead of being wasted. Just a thought.

Sydney’s a doll!!! I hope I get to chat one day, but with work, it’s gonna be a challenge. Hurray for Kidd kicking the show up a notch by giving you a more meaningful part! I know the synopsis will be great.
Glad the cloth diapers are working out for you too.

Congrats on your new job!! That’s so awesome
I am so glad that kellymom helped you out, it’s been my go to for info and I’m not even due for 5 more weeks! I am glad to know it still helps you. Can you tell me what kind of sling you use? Looks like a ring sling? TIA!
Oh and chello? Sydney is GORGEOUS!
Comment by Ann — April 24, 2008 #
She is just too cute for words!!!
Thank you for blogging so honestly about your breastfeeding. It brings a much needed balance to the show, and I’m glad listeners are able to read about both sides of the parenting spectrum between you and Kellie. People can read your blog and see right away you don’t have to bee a non-shaving, birkenstock wearing, hippie in order to do the best thing for your baby. It’s possible to be both a diva and a great mama! You Rock!
Comment by Amber — April 24, 2008 #
Congratulations on the new job! Sydney is beautiful!
I saw on Kellie’s blog that you are trying Weight Watchers. It is GREAT. I did the core plan and lost 30 pounds in 12 weeks. Not sure how much baby weight you have, but it definitely will work! Good luck!

Congrats on the new job. Maybe I’m blind but where can I read these synopsises?
Comment by Jennifer — April 25, 2008 #
SO GLAD YOU LOVE KELLYMOM! i’m addicted! did you know they have a FORUM?! full of great moms and great advice! we’d love to have you Dianthe! oh and i LOVE your sling?! have you been to the peppermint boutique in Dallas? Sydney is precious!
Comment by Megan — April 25, 2008 #
Dianthe, just want to let you know that sydney is a doll (looks like Kelley!!) AND BREASTFEEDING does help you lose weight. By the time my son was 3months, I was thinner than before I got preganant! But, I exercised my entire pregancy and once he came I continued to eat well and chug water!! If you eat plenty of fiber, protein and drink gallons of water you will lose weight. And a minor correction, you “DID LOSE” the baby weight..now you are stuck with the Dianthe weight. you can do it!!
Comment by kim — April 27, 2008 #
Where are the recaps? I’ve looked all over the site, and can’t find them! Dianthe, or anybody, would you please post a link?
Thanks!!
